Michigan Voters Hold Emergency Rally At State Supreme Court after Trump, Republicans Block Recount
Recount Volunteers, Supporters, Ordinary Citizens Decry Unfair Decision to Suppress Voting, Civil Rights
(Lansing, Michigan) – Outraged by last night’s decision to shut down the recount, Michigan voters will hold an emergency rally and protest outside the state Supreme Court in Lansing today at 2 pm ET to speak out against the unfair decision and call on the Michigan Supreme Court to immediately allow the recount to continue.
Grassroots supporters will gather to push for reform to Michigan’s broken voting system, arguing that the numerous irregularities already uncovered during the recount provide significant evidence that voters in Michigan – particularly in communities of color – may have been massively disenfranchised during the election.
“This is an attack on our democracy by Trump and Michigan Republicans,” said Lou Novak, a Detroit resident, Green Party member, and recount volunteer who will be speaking at the rally. “The discrepancies we’ve discovered while counting votes so far are precisely the reason we need a recount in the first place. We will not back down from this fight now. The Michigan Supreme Court must do its job.”
