Dr. Jill Stein, Presidential candidate at COP 21, to speak at civil society events decrying the derailed COP process, calling for US to lead transformative climate action
WHO: Dr. Jill Stein, 2012 Green Party presidential nominee, HERE
WHAT: Jill Stein will speak alongside China’s chief climate negotiator, the President of Iceland and other noted climate advocates at the Belong Forum on Dec. 8th. At this and other civil society events, Stein will call for an urgent, transformative solution “as big as the crisis barreling down on us.” In the face of a derailed COP process with woefully inadequate voluntary commitments, she is challenging the US to take the lead with an emergency Green New Deal to create 20 million living wage jobs and 100% clean renewable energy by 2030.
Stein also calls for deep cuts in the bloated US and other military budgets, as well as global nuclear disarmament to free up financial resources to pay for the green energy transition and climate damages inflicted on developing nations. Addressing the tragic context of the Paris meetings, Dr. Stein notes that terrorism is itself an outgrowth of catastrophic wars for oil, which the Green New Deal makes obsolete.
Stein will also be meeting with global Green Party leadership which plays a key role in climate progress around the world.
Dr. Stein will address these themes in several appearances between December 6th and 9th.
WHEN: Guest Speaker at Climate/Militarism conference – Dec 5th, “Women and Militarization” WIPLF- Dec 6th,
Belong Forum, La Galerie des Solutions – Dec 8th.
WHERE: COP 21 in Paris, France
WHY: As a presidential candidate with the Green Party, the only national US party not poisoned by corporate money, Dr. Stein is uniquely able to tell the truth about the failed COP process, the desperately inadequate voluntary solutions., and what must be done to reclaim our future.
